More detail on this person: William Harold Or Bill Smart, 72 Services set for ex-Rockwell exec William Harold Smart Tulsa World (OK) - Saturday, August 30, 2003 BROKEN ARROW -- William Harold "Bill" Smart, a retired Army lieutenant colonel and Rockwell executive, died Aug. 16. He was 72. A graveside memorial service will be held Oct. 8 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Local funeral arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Memory Funeral Home in Tulsa. Smart was born June 3, 1931, in Independence, Kan., to Marie and Harold Smart. He attended the University of Tulsa and received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He began his military service in the Marines, participating in the Inchon landing during the Korean War. He went on to serve as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and later for the Strategic Communications Command in Europe. Smart was also a test pilot at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. A recipient of the Bronze Star, he retired from the Army in 1973. After a short stint with Motorola, Smart joined Rockwell International and eventually be came president of Rockwell Mexico and director of Latin American marketing. He retired from Rockwell in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Susan A. (Herbst) Smart; four sons, James Smart of Coral Springs, Fla., Jeffrey Smart of Delray Beach, Fla., Stephen Smart of Norman and William Smart of Houston; three daughters, Gabriella Smart-Swendson of Houston and Kristi Smart and Kathryn Smart of Garland, Texas; a brother, Ted Smart of Chicago; and five grandchildren. Friends are making memorial contributions to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the charity of their choice.
