More detail on this person: Maj. Richard Saliga Maj. Richard Saliga Bedford Minuteman (MA) - Friday, October 25, 2013 Bedford MA United States Major Richard P. Saliga, U.S. Army Ret., age 82, of Bedford died at his home on October 19, 2013. Major Saliga was born in Boston on August 27, 1931, to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Teichman) Saliga. He was raised in Bedford and lived in the first farmhouse built on Davis Road. Following his graduation from high school, he attended MIT briefly before being drafted into the Army in 1952. He retired in 1972 after a military career that included service in Iran, Iraq, Ecuador, Panama City many other places before his final destination of Fort Rucker, Alabama. As a pilot and engineer, he spent much time marking and mapping in foreign lands. After leaving the service he owned and operated 2 audio-visual stores. During his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, home projects and sharing stories of his childhood. He will be remembered as a patriotic man with a generous heart who showed kindness to his family and neighbors. He was the loving husband of Lee (Berger) Saliga; devoted father of Shon Saliga of Austin, TX, Karen Reiff of Marianna, FL and Lynn Schwartz of Springfield, VA; brother of Donald of Hudson and Thomas of Centerville. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Robert. A memorial service was held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 100 Pine Hill Rd., Bedford, on Thurs., Oct. 24, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Assoc., 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
