More detail on this person: Robert J. Sheffler Robert J. Sheffler, age 84 of Tulsa, OK., formerly of Joplin, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Rolling Hills Health Care in Tulsa. Born June 20, 1928 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Joe John Sheffler and Myrtle Pearson Sheffler. Mr. Sheffler served in the U.S. Army for over 25 years, spanning World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. His service included Helicopter and Fixed Wing Aircraft Piloting. His many decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze and Silver Stars, 2 Purple Hearts and the VN Cross of Gallantry. He retired from the military in 1971. Then went on to get his Masters Degree from MSSC. He worked as a Plant Manager for Hoover Manufacturing in Leitchfield, Ky. for several years and on to Tupelo, Miss. where he retired and returned to Joplin in 1982. Mr. Sheffler lived in Joplin until 2011 and moved to Tulsa to be near family. On January 6, 1948 he married Elsie Hasenpflug in South Dakota. They were married 56 years. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2004. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karri Sheffler, two sons, Robert Jr. and Mike Sheffler, and a brother, Dick Sheffler. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Jackson and husband Jim of Tulsa, Ok., Judy Meroney and husband Jim of Willow Park, Tx., Kristy Hughes and husband Chris of Benton, La.; three grandchildren, Matthew and James Jackson, Chase Meroney; four great grandchildren, Brittney and Braydon Hughes, Delainey Jackson, Christian Meroney; two sisters, Barbara Fithian and husband Don of Beaumont, Ca., Virginia Lemons and husband Don of Azle, Tx. Memorial services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Parker Chapel with Robert Bigelow officiating, after which the family will receive friends. Memorial contributions may be made to either The Alzheimer's Association or The Wounded Warrior Project in care of Parker Mortuary.
