More detail on this person: Lt Col Robert Curtis Sanders Sr, 86 Robert Curtis Sanders Sr. Meridian Star, The (MS) - Friday, May 24, 2013 MERIDIAN _ Services for Lt. Col. Robert Curtis Sanders Sr. (retired) will be held today, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Sanders, 86, of Meridian, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at his residence. He was an officer in the United States Army for 24 and one half years. He served in World War II and as a Battery Commander in the Korean Conflict and First Airborne Division battalion commander in the Vietnam Conflict. He earned a Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and other commendations. Upon retirement in 1970, he taught history and government at Meridian High School for 11 years. A man of many talents, he enjoyed gardening, farming, woodworking, but especially enjoyed serving and helping others. He loved his church, Trinity Presbyterian, and served as a Sunday school teacher, elder and a devoted active member. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Neeta Skipper Sanders of Meridian; daughters: Diane Sanders of Meridian, and Karen Gladstone and husband Barry of Alabaster, Ala.; sons: Robert Sanders Jr. of Meridian, and Gregory Sanders and wife Kum Duk of South Korea; five grandchildren; and, one great-granddaughter. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Wesley House and Care Lodge.
