More detail on this person: Adolph SCHANZENBACH Adolph SCHANZENBACH Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The (GA) - Tuesday, June 29, 2010 SCHANZENBACH, Adolph Adolph Paul "Kelly" Schanzenbach age 85 of Lawrenceville passed away on June 27, 2010. Paul, also known as Kelly, was a generous man, who greatly loved Juanita, his beloved wife of 26 years and his family as the center of his life. He gave to various charities with a grateful heart; a member of Mountain Park Methodist Church and also, Mountain Park Lodge #729. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Sophie Schanzenbach. Surviving family members include his wife Juanita Schanzenbach of Lawrenceville, sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Frederick & Karen Schanzenbach, Anchorage, Alaska, Abbot Father John Henry, Cleveland, Ohio, Fred and Susan Green, Taylorsville, North Carolina, and Kenneth and Judy Green, Columbus, Georgia; grandson Joshua Green and granddaughter Kelly Noel Schanzenbach; and many friends [and veterans]. Paul started flying at 12 years old and had his pilot's license at 15 years old. He graduated from Rhodes High School, Cleveland, Ohio in 1942, and was president of his class. He attended Allegheny College and enlisted in the US Army in PA in December 1942. Paul entered Officer Candidate School and was one of the "ninety day wonders' and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in Coastal Artillery then assigned to the 17th Airborne Division and transferred to Army intelligence in 1943. He assisted in the surrender of all German Forces in Norway in 1945 and from 1945 to 1946, he supported the American Adjunct General for the Nuremberg Wars Trial and served on the team that interrogated the defendants including Hermann Goring. Mr. Schanzenbach also typed the final indictments of the twelve defendants that were to be executed. After the war, he graduated from Western Reserve University, and received a degree in pre law, and attained a Masters Degree from Ohio State University in Dairy Science. He remained on reserve duty whereby in 1955 he attended the U.S. Army fight school. Paul became rated for both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. He was a manager of the Service Milk Company in Cleveland from 1948 to 1961 and was also was a salesman for Proctor and Gamble and the Oliver Tractor Company. In 1962, he attained the rank of Major in the U.S. Army reserves and in 1964, he resigned his reserve commission and re-entered active duty as a Warrant Officer1. In 1965 and 1968 "Kelly" was deployed with the 1st Air Cavalry Division to Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and later also became a flight instructor. Kelly retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1976 following four years of service in Germany where he often flew visiting military ranking officers and translated at formal occasions. At his retirement, he was the 19th ranked Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army. Mr. Schanzenbach worked 30 years for H & R Block in preparation of tax returns, opening of district offices, and office management. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am today at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens with Pastors Charles Barnes and Charles Robinson officiating.
