More detail on this person: John Robert Shook, 74, died the evening of July 13, 2017 of a Heart Attack at his home in Round Rock, Texas. John was born October 20, 1942 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. John grew up in Marshfield, Missouri, as an only child of his parents, Phillip Marvin Shook and Tressie Elaine Shook, who preceded him in death. John attended grade school, junior high and high school in Marshfield. In high school, he was on the track team, played trombone in the band and sang in a quartet, performing at weddings. During his senior year in high school, he joined the Navy Reserves. He attended and graduated from Southwest Missouri State, in Springfield, Missouri, with a BS in Education and a Superintendent Certificate in December 1964. The day he graduated from college he had to begin military active duty and transferred to the United States Army entering as enlisted to begin his required military active duty commitment. John eventually attended OCS (Officer Candidate School) to become an Army Officer. John proudly served his first tour in Viet Nam in 1966 1967 as an Infantry Pathfinder. When John returned to Ft Jackson, So. Carolina, he took the flight test to become a helicopter pilot and scored the highest score that had ever had been recorded at that time at Fr. Jackson. John attended Army Flight School in Mineral Wells, Texas and Fort Stewart in Savannah, Georgia. Following Flight School, John attended Aircraft Maintenance School at Ft Eustis, Virginia before returning to Da Nang, Viet Nam in 1969 1970. John received a Master's in Education at the University of Missouri and a Masters in Personnel Management from the University of Eastern Michigan during his military career. John was honorably discharged from the Army at Ft. Bliss, in El Paso, Texas in 1985. After his military service, John was employed as a Human Resources Manager by Rockwell International in El Paso, TX; E-Systems and Bancorp in Dallas, TX; and Raytheon in Greenville, TX. John also worked for a short time with Keller Williams in Cedar Park, Texas. John was very supportive of military soldiers and recently served as a Probation Officer with the Veterans Drug Court in Georgetown, Texas, which he was proud to be a part of. John was happily married to Marilyn M. Shook for 53 years after meeting on a blind date in college. Their military life took them on a journey of 26 moves in 20 years. John and Marilyn moved to Austin from Dallas, Texas in 2006 to be close to their only son Terrance Allen Shook who is married to Dr. Lynley Shook. John thoroughly enjoyed his three grand-children, Nathan, Jorden and Madison and was so proud of their accomplishments in school and sport activities. The Celebration of John's Life will be Saturday, 11:00 AM, August 19, 2017 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, TX at 14501 N. I-35 (I-35 & Howard Lane). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Organizations, Heroes Night Out in Williamson County, or The Folds of Honor Foundation.
