"Sam" Simerly of Babson Park died Thursday (April 1, 1999) at Tampa General Hospital. He was 61. Born in Jacksonville on June 6, 1937, he moved to Babson Park from Alexandria, Va., eight years ago. He retired from the Army as a colonel after 33 years of service in 1991. He was a 1955 graduate of Lake Wales High School. He attended the First Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Simerly; daughters, Pamela Jane Strobel, Mystic, Conn., and Karen Kay Fehlberg, Kissimmee; son, Mark Thomas Simerly, Clarksville, Tenn.; sisters, Jettie McElroy, Frostproof, and Sue Holt, Lakeland; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home, 454 Buck Moore Road, Lake Wales.
