More detail on this person: Barry F. Skinner,
77, died in San Diego, Ca., on Friday, July 13,
2012, after a valiant battle with Parkinson's,
never giving up hope that he would once again
"Win The War".
He was born April 11, 1935, in Muskogee,
Oklahoma. After graduating from college and The
Naval Air Cadet Program, Barry accepted his
commission in
The Marine Corps.
After 26 years as a Naval Aviator, Barry retired
from The Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel, his last
tour of duty being the Asst. Chief of
Staff/Comptroller at MCRD San Diego. During his
26 years of service as a pilot, Barry flew almost
every type of military aircraft. He survived three
tours of duty in Viet Nam where he flew
helicopters, received 22 air medals plus The
DiJ'tinguiJ'hed Fjying Cross, a decoration given
to men and women who display heroism or
extraordinary achievement while participating in
an aerial flight.
During his military years, Barry attended college
and obtained two Master's degrees. After retiring
from The U.S. Marine Corps, he began a new career
as the CEO of several diagnostic facilities, the
largest being Del Arno Diagnostic Center in
Torrance, CA. After overseeing the construction,
staffing, and running of this center, Barry then
became the business administrator for ME1v1RAD
Medical Group, a group of over 50 radiologists
that provided services to seven hospitals and four
diagnostic centers. Prior to retiring from his
second career, Barry was the CEO of OPEN-AIR
MRI Center of San Diego.
Because of his love of airplanes and flying, Barry
was one of the original docents aboard The USS
Midway as well as a docent at The Flying
Leatherneck Museum at MCAS Miramar.
Barry was a brave fighter who overcame obstacles
in both his service to our country and in his
battle to survive his disease. He was a
magnificent person who cared for and took care of
his fellow men in uniform, his employees, and his
family. We loved him with all our hearts and will
miss him dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy, his daughter,
Sara, his grandchildren, Katrina, Bob, Emily, and
Jake, plus three sisters of Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Barry was preceded in death by his son, Scott.
