He was born April 11, 1935, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. After graduating from college and The Naval Air Cadet Program, Barry accepted his commission in

The Marine Corps.

After 26 years as a Naval Aviator, Barry retired from The Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel, his last tour of duty being the Asst. Chief of Staff/Comptroller at MCRD San Diego. During his 26 years of service as a pilot, Barry flew almost every type of military aircraft. He survived three tours of duty in Viet Nam where he flew helicopters, received 22 air medals plus The DiJ'tinguiJ'hed Fjying Cross, a decoration given to men and women who display heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.

During his military years, Barry attended college and obtained two Master's degrees. After retiring from The U.S. Marine Corps, he began a new career as the CEO of several diagnostic facilities, the largest being Del Arno Diagnostic Center in Torrance, CA. After overseeing the construction, staffing, and running of this center, Barry then became the business administrator for ME1v1RAD Medical Group, a group of over 50 radiologists that provided services to seven hospitals and four diagnostic centers. Prior to retiring from his second career, Barry was the CEO of OPEN-AIR MRI Center of San Diego.

Because of his love of airplanes and flying, Barry was one of the original docents aboard The USS Midway as well as a docent at The Flying Leatherneck Museum at MCAS Miramar.

Barry was a brave fighter who overcame obstacles in both his service to our country and in his battle to survive his disease. He was a magnificent person who cared for and took care of his fellow men in uniform, his employees, and his family. We loved him with all our hearts and will miss him dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy, his daughter, Sara, his grandchildren, Katrina, Bob, Emily, and Jake, plus three sisters of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Barry was preceded in death by his son, Scott.
