(78) of Choctaw passed away on July 3, 2004 at his home. born February 11, 1926 i New Castle Penn. Ed graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy in 1943. He began his military career in 1943 courageously serving his country in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. At the end of his career he retired in 1971 as a decorated Marine and pilot at the rank of Lt.. Col.. in the United States Marine Corps. He received a B.S. in Education from Youngstown College, Ohio in 1948. Ed had a lifetime commitment to education and received two Master's degrees and a Ph.D. After military retirement, Ed began a career as an educator at University of Oklahoma and Rose State College. He was a Freemason and Shriner, active at India Temple and enjoyed playing the calliope in the parades. He is survived by his devoted wife Jean Smith of Choctaw and his four children; Edward R. Smith of Midwest City, Deborah Ogburn of Mass., Pat Pointon of OKC, and John Pointon of Choctaw, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; numerous family, friends, and fellow service men. Ed had a steadfast belief in his Lord and Savior and a strong devotion to his country. He was committed to his family and friends and lived a life filled with music and education. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Demote Funeral Home 1145 W. Britton Rd.
