More detail on this person: Jeffrey L. Smith Jeffrey L. Smith, 70, of Cheyenne and formerly of Cody, died July 26, 2012, at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1941, in Elbert, Colo., to George Carl and Dorothea Belle Baxter Smith. Jeff was raised in Colorado and graduated from Douglas County High School in 1959. Several years later he joined the Army. He was a Blackhawk pilot during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Purple Heart. Jeff later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and master's degree from the University of Louisville. He worked as a psychotherapist for 20 years before retiring. He married Carole Cook on Aug. 14, 1976, and they had two children. Jeff is survived by daughter Kyndra Fowler of Wheatland, son Justin Smith of Denver, and brothers Russell Smith of Merino, Colo., and James Smith of Truth or Consequences, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Smith and sister Georgibelle Smith. A memorial will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug 3 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Association.
