More detail on this person: Dr John R Smith, 66 FUNERAL NOTICES Palm Beach Post, The (FL) - Monday, September 28, 1998 66, of Jupiter, formally of Dothan, AL, died on Friday, September 25, 1998 at St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia, MI following an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be held 10 am, Monday, September 28, (today) at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan, AL with Minister Bill Watkins officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Christian Home Church of Christ Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday evening. At other times they will be at the residence of Dr. Doug Smith in Dothan. LTC Smith was born January 22, 1932 in Bellfountain, Ohio and lived the early years of his life in Hollywood, FL. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars where he served in aviations with the U.S. Army. LTC Smith received the Army of Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, four Overseas Bars, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and Vietnam Service Medal. Additionally, he received the Air Medal, Army Aviator Badge, BronzeStar Medal, and Senior Army Aviator Badge. Following his distinguished active military career, LTC Smith taught Junior ROTC in both Bradford and Palm Beach School Systems in Florida for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1994. LTC Smith is survived by his wife, Yvonne Speigner Smith, Jupiter; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Doug and Karen Smith, Dothan, AL; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dennis Odom, Dothan, AL; three grandchildren, Kris Trawick, Emily Smith, and Chase Smith; a great grandchild, Brantley Trawick; two brothers and their wives, Guy William and Mary Jane Smith, Sun City, AZ, and Paul Jerome and Jackie Smith, Davie; a sister-in-law, Alice Smith, Ft. Pierce; a brother-in-law and his wife, King and AnnSpeigner, Shreveport, LA; seven nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Kris Trawick, Chase Smith, Roger Speigner, Randy Speigner, Gary Smith, and Scott Williams.
