More detail on this person: Mark E. Smith Sr. Services for Mark E. Smith Sr., 78, of Burnet will be held on Thursday, Oct. 01 at 10 a.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bertram with Pastor Gordon Bergstrom officiating. Burial will follow in the Brizendine Cemetery in the Gabriel Mills Community northeast of Bertram with military honors. He was born in Bertram on Aug. 17, 1931 to Mike and Gladys Brizendine Smith and died on Sept. 27 in Austin. He graduated from Bertram High School in 1948 and served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force and then in the Army. After his service in the armed forces he worked in civil service as a flight simulator instructor at Fort Hood in Killeen. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bertram but attended Cumberland Presbyterian Church with his wife Helen for many years until her death in 2006. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bertram No. 583 and the VFW Post of Burnet No. 6974. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen and his parents and his sister, Valda Barrington. He is survived by his children, Tena M. Ferguson and husband Richard, Mark E. Smith and wife Jodi, Karen D. Hamilton and husband Danny, Kathy A. Weber and husband Glenn, Terri L. Sawyer and husband Trooper, and Beth A. Imholt; his brother, Keith Smith; and his grandchildren, Laurie, Callie, Taylor, Bobby Joe, Kendal, Katrina and husband Ben, Christopher and wife Leeza, Cody, Brandy, Chad, Daniel, Jackie and husband Andy, Cory, Felicia, Matthew and Joshua; 14 great-grandchildren; his companion and best friend, Sue Livingston; and her children, Larry, Monica, Fred, Mona, Roy, and Joanna. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edgar Funeral Home, Burnet.
