He was born Oct. 12, 1937, in Jasper, Fla., to Oleta Smith Johnson of Jasper, Fla. and the late James ''Jim'' Franklyn Smith Sr. He received his Masters Degree from Pepperdine University. He was a retired Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed with Lockheed Martin as a flight simulator instructor. He was presidential helicopter pilot for Lyndon B. Johnson and was a member of Retired Officers Association. He was a Methodist. Survivors: daughters, Mary Elizabeth Porchas of Yuma, Ariz. and Kathleen Marie Aschenbrener of San Bernadino, Calif.; son, William Scott Smith Jr. of Shasta Lake City, Calif.; mother; and four grandchildren. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at CR 314, 1737 Marker. Galloway and Sons Funeral Home, Beeville, 361-358-2512. Memorials: Aim Hospice, P.O. Box 4206, Beeville, TX 78104.
