More detail on this person: CW4 David W. Sooter, who, of course was a WO-1 then, was in D Troop 1-10 Cav, 4th Infantry Division when he was shot down and taken prisoner. I joined the Troop a short time after this had happened.

Many years later, Dave came to the 114th AHC, stationed in the old Panama Canal Zone, as a W-4. He had recently been released from all of the post-captivity counseling and debriefings.

Dave was in Ecuador, not Honduras or El Salvador, flying a UH-1H, on a State Department 'special mission' when he again disappeared. I had just left the Canal Zone to return to CONUS, and heard about the aircraft disappearing from friends still in the 114th. I know from talking to many people, in many capacities, that a massive SAR operation was conducted, and that it took a very long time to locate the wreckage.
