Sothcott, USA (ret), 71, left his family and friends on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004. Myron "Poppy" Sothcott was born on July 13, 1933, in Niskayuna, N.Y. He was employed as a software engineer for 24 years by Unisys Corp. He served honorably two years in Vietnam as a Senior Aviator. He was actively involved with Tabb Athletic Boosters Club for many years. Most recently, Poppy supported Back River Surge Softball. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Sothcott and Dorothy Smith, as well as his daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Bumgardner-Sothcott. His memory lives on through his beloved wife, Beverly A. Sothcott, and his three sons, Robert Sothcott of Newport News, David Sothcott of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Victor Sothcott of Poquoson; three sisters, Vivian Freeman, Sylvia Son and Maureen Grube, all of California. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Valerie Sothcott, Jessamine and Kristal Newer and Mark Bumgardner. He also leaves behind many other close, loving friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Peninsula Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Northside Christian Church, 1300 George Washington Highway, Yorktown.
