More detail on this person: Duane Edward Truman Duane Edward Truman passed away Tuesday at his home. He was the son of Ora Luella Wilmeth & Edward Elmore Truman. 27 Dec 1974, he was united in marriage to Janice Jackson, who survives. Also surviving are children: Lane Truman w/wife, Misty of Cassville, & Barbie Truman of Mt. Vernon; sisters: Evelyn Davenport w/husband, Marvin of Mt. Vernon, & Robbie Taylor of Carthage, NC; 2 grandchildren: Ashlee Rummel w/husband, Travis of Everton, & Kennedy Truman of Cassville; plus several nieces & 1 nephew. Preceding him in death were his parents. Duane grew up, received his education in Creston, IA, graduating from Creston High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1963, Duane joined the US Army & was a pilot in the Vietnam War. Throughout his Army career he received various medals, ribbons plus badges, including a Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/a Silver & Bronze Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Army Aviator Badge, Distinguished Flying Cross, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal & National Defense Service Medal. On January 31, 1983, Duane retired as a Major. He was a member of Vinh-Long Flying Unit, National Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association, NRA & a Lifetime member of both the Monett VFW & Military Officers Association. Reverend Pat Elsey & Ralph Hilburn conducted the services w/Burial & military honors in Oak Hill Cemetery.
