More detail on this person: Commander Thomas Paul Taylor, 72 Thomas Paul Taylor Orlando Sentinel, The (FL) - Sunday, December 30, 2007 FL United States TAYLOR, THOMAS PAUL, Commander Thomas P. Taylor, 72, passed away after a brief illness, on December 27, 2007 in Winter Park, FL. He was known by all for his loyalty, kindness and integrity. Tom was born in Newlyn, WV, on October 6, 1935. He graduated from Gainesville High School in FL and attended Jacksonville University where he played basketball. He later received degrees from the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA. During his 20 year naval career, Commander Taylor served in Viet Nam as an aircraft carrier pilot, was Operations Officer of the US Naval Academy, and was the Navy's Project Officer for the bicentennial in 1976 on the USS Forrestal. Tom was honored to facilitate several presidential visits for Presidents Nixon, Ford and numerous other dignitaries. After retiring in 1976, he served as Vice President of Sales for Petroleum Products, a large oil distributor in Charleston, WV. Tom's winning personality and technical expertise rendered him an invaluable asset to both the Coal Association and the Oil Marketing Association of WV. He was known as the leading industrial salesman in the Southern WV coal fields and served on several national councils for the various oil companies. Tom served as the Chairman of a Jobber Council with Shell Oil Company. As an avid golfer, he helped arrange many tournaments for charity and trade associations. He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Taylor, Greenville SC; his son, Thomas P. Taylor, Jr., Charleston, SC; daughter, Jennifer Sterling, Greenville, SC; four grandchildren; his brother, Richard P. Taylor, Oak Hill, WV; his fiancée, Ann Anderson and family, Winter Park, FL; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Services for Commander Taylor will be in Greenville, SC at a later date.
