More detail on this person: Kenneth E. Thiem, 67, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Carolinas Hospital. He was born in Norfolk, VA, a son of Ruby Lovette Thiem and the late Norman L. Thiem. He is also predeceased by a brother, Chuck Thiem. Kenneth served in the US Army during The Vietnam War as a Chief Warrant Officer and helicopter pilot. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Bronze Stars with "V" Device, two Air Medal for Heroism with "V" Device, and three Purple Hearts, along with numerous other medals for his service and heroic actions of valor. He retired from the USPS in Columbia, SC, and he served as Union President for the City Letter Carriers. He was a proud member of the NRA. Kenneth is survived by his mother, Ruby Lovette Thiem of Florence, SC; daughter, Allison (Scott) Thiem Hartley of Chapin, SC; brother, Norman Lee (Joan) Thiem of Acworth, GA; three sisters, Sally Thiem and Jenny (Randell) Williams, both of Florence, and Lisa (Tony) Thiem Sutton of Columbia; one granddaughter, Savannah Hartley; seven nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at Lovette Cemetery in Green Sea, SC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service. Please sign the online guest register at www.cainfuneralhome.com.
