He was born in Portland, Maine, a son of Charles O. and Effie D. Titus, grew up in Scarborough, Maine, and was a graduate of Cheverus High School in Portland. Mr. Titus served in the Coast Guard from 1953 to 1957 and was an Army aviator from 1957 until he retired in 1973. He served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He received the following awards: Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Good Conduct Medal, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Air Medal (with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (with a 60 Device), Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Four Overseas Bars and Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Mr. Titus was a communicant of St. Francis Cabrini Church in Savannah, Ga., and an associate member of Christ Methodist Church in Long Beach. He moved here in 1983. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie R. Titus; a daughter, Lisa M. Albanese of Bainbridge, N.Y.; two sons, Donald A. Jr. of Pass Christian and Troy P. of Gretna, La.; a brother, Dr. Charles O. Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.; three grandsons and a granddaughter. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th St., Gulfport.
