In March, Mr. Twilley was diagnosed with cancer and was unable to continue working. He was named BCC's registrar emeritus during a ceremony in December. Barbara Bryan took over for Mr. Twilley at BCC. "Roy Twilley was a great mentor," Bryan said. "I'll always remember him as a courageous man who beared unflinchingly what heaven sent." Born in Selma, Ala., Mr. Twilley earned a bachelor's degree from Auburn University; a master's degree from Troy State University in Alabama; a specialist's degree in education administration from the University of Missouri; and a doctorate of education from a California university.
