More detail on this person: Thomas Earl Thompson THOMPSON - Thomas Earl, 74, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, March 9, 1999. Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL, graduated Fort Lauderdale High School in 1943 and was a running back on the 1941 "Flying L" State Championship Varsity football team. Served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 in the Pacific with the 11th Airborne through New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon and on to occupational Tokyo. A graduate of the University of florida wit a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and president of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Reentered the US Army in 1949 for tours in Korea, Fort Benning, GA as Parachute Jump School instructor, 2 tours of Germany, 3 different Pentagon assignments, Army Aviation School at Ft. Rucker, AL, and 18 months in Vietnam, 12 of those as Battalion Commander of the 222nd Helicopter Battalion. In 1970 he obtained a Master Degree in Business Administration from Shippensburg State University and completed the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks PA. He retired from the US Army in 1977 at the rank of Colonel and began a career with Bell Helcopter International with positions in Tehran, Iran; Fort Worth, TX and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Mr. Thompson assumed the responsibilities of Vice President and General Manager for Bell Helicopter Arabia in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Adams Thompson and his daughter, Gloria Jean Mondort. Dear father to Thomas E. Thompson, Jr. of Marlow, U.K., Robert W. Thompson of Arlington, TX., and Anna Bevins of Cedar Rapids, IA. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Kimberly, Nicole, Elliot, Joey, Colin, Jessica, Will, Samuel and Dylan and great grandson Jacob. Visitation is at FAIRCHILD FUNERAL HOME, 299 N. Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, March 16, 1999. Funeral service will be conducted, Wednesday, time yet to be announced. Interment Lauderdale Memorial Park, Ft. Lauderdale.
