Obituary from 26 Jan 1971--Hawaii Tribune Herald.
Maj. Dennis Hidenbou Uyenoyama, 29, formerly of
the Big Island, was buried with full military
honors Friday at San Francisco National Cemetery.
Uyenoyama was killed in a helicopter crash while
on a military mission.
The funeral service at the Presidio Main Post
Chapel in San Francisco and the graveside rites
were performed by Chaplain Herbert H. Hicks.
Uyenoyama was commissioned and graduated from
William & Mary College in Williamsburg, VA in
1963. In college, he earned a letter in baseball
and was awarded Distinguished Military Honors.
He also attended school in Hilo, Kobe and Tokyo,
Japan and Newport News, VA.
The deceased served in Korea in 1963-64, in Viet
Nam as a medical evacuation pilot in 1966-67,
where he won a Bronze Star and in Heidelburg,
Germany from 1967-69. He returned to Korea for
his second tour in April 1970.
Survivors include his wife, Jayne H. Uyenoyama,
his daughter Catharine Mieko; his parents Lt. Col.
& Mrs. Hidekazu Uyenoyama of Ft. Riley, Kan.; two
sisters, Mrs.Gerald K. Okamura of Gradena, Calif.
and Miss June K Uyenoyama of San Francisco; a
brother PFC Delta Uyenoyama, Camp Pendleton,
Calif. and grandmother, Mrs. Shige Nakamura of
Kurtistown.
Maj. Uyenoyama was the grandson of the late
Bishop Shutetsu, Mrs. Ishi Uyenoyama and Tom T.
Nakamura of Kurtistown. He was born 10 Nov
1941.
