More detail on this person: JOHN HAL VANDEVER Archived Story Brownsville Herald, The (TX) - Saturday, October 26, 1996 JOHN HAL VANDEVER John Hal Vandever, 54, of Aubrey, Texas, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 1996 at the Denton Regional Medical Center, Flow Campus, in Denton, Texas. He was born Oct. 30, 1941 in Brownsville. He graduated from Brownsville High School and the University of Texas at Austin. He was a Medevac pilot for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Margaret Mayhall on Dec. 23, 1966 in San Antonio. He was active in the Boy Scouts and the Confederate Air Force and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a Special Agent//Pilot Aviation Section for the Drug Enforcement Administration for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Vandever of Aubrey; his mother, Marilla Vandever, also of Aubrey; four daughters, Lesli Yamashita of Denton, Serena Garza of San Antonio, Debra Buschner of Dallas and Lori Leigh Vandever of Aubrey; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Dr., Denton. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Ed Robertson will officiate. Memorials are to be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1144 Denton, Texas 76201; or American Diabetes Association, 12770 Merit Dr., Suite 115-A, Lockbox 113, Dallas, Texas 75251. Pallbearers will be Gary Wheeler, Charlie Martinez, Gary Morrison, Tim Tierney, Jim Vano, Bob Johanson and Ed Beatty.
