More detail on this person: Dennis Shaw Van Liew, age 76, of Apple Valley, California, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. He was born to the late Roscoe Van Liew and Alice Shaw Van Liew on June 21, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his sisters, Joanne (Lex) Udy and Lynda (Duane) Miller.

On June 12, 1962, Dennis married the love of his life, Carolynn May Warner. Together they raised two daughters - Stacy Ann Thorn (Andrew) and Stephanie Lynn Clark (Craig). He was a great husband, a wonderful father, and an awesome grandpa to Christina Thorn Olson (Scott), Jacob Thorn (Jacqueline), Joseph Thorn, John Thorn, Nathan Clark, Sarah Clark, Sarah Thorn, Kyle Clark, Rebekah Thorn and Leah Thorn. He was super happy to be a great-grandpa to Elianna Thorn and Warner Olson.

Dennis' work was dedicated to serving others. A Major in the USMC, and a Helicopter Pilot, he is a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, and flew over 1100 missions during two tours of duty (1965-1966 & 1969) in Viet Nam. As a member of Marine 1, he flew President Nixon back and forth to Camp David. After honorably retiring from the Corp, Dennis spent another 20 years working for McDonald Douglas and Boeing as a manager in Logistics / Supply & Support.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, he and his beloved wife Carolynn were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on August 15, 1987. He served in many capacities in the church and was loved by all. He believed in Christ and was a man of integrity.

A viewing (10:00 AM) and Funeral Service (11:00 AM) are scheduled for September 26, 2015 at 351 North, 100 West, Nephi, Utah. An Honor Memorial conducted by the United States Marine Corp is scheduled for 12:15 PM at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah.
