More detail on this person: Dr Weston O Van Loon WESTON O. VAN LOON Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman (Wasilla, AK) - Monday, February 9, 2004 Dr. Weston O. Van Loon died Jan. 31, 2004, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Feb. 5 at Wasilla Bible Church, 1701 Lucille, with Reverend Jim Eller officiating. Mr. Van Loon was born March 4, 1936, in Duluth, Minn. He came to Alaska with the Army in 1975. Dr. Van Loon lived in Palmer for 19 years with his soulmate and wife Nancy. He received his Ph.D. from Fielding College in Educational Psychology. He taught college level courses for more than 30 years and retired from Mat-Su College in 1998. He currently taught at Wayland Baptist University. He is remembered by his students for his patience in the classroom. His family said, "He was a compassionate person with a humble spirit. He will be remembered by everyone for his wit and sense of humor." Dr. Van Loon was a member of Wasilla Bible Church and was a dedicated Christian. He was a Vietnam veteran and served his country proudly. As a result of his service in Vietnam he was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action, as well as numerous other medals and citations. Wes Van Loon is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters Cindy Stoker and Lorrie O'Brien; sons Eric Schauer and Aaron Williams; grandsons Kenny Williams, Adam Stoker and Brandon Stoker; daughter-in-law Nancy Williams, sons-in-law John Stoker and Matthew O' Brien; brother Clifford Van Loon; sister Lornis Van Loon; niece and nephew Jennifer and Chris Van Loon.
