Dwane "Duke" Charles Watson (ret.), 69, of 848 Hamilton St., Carlisle, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the U.S. Army War College Memorial Chapel, Carlisle. Sentinel, The (Carlisle, PA) - Wednesday, September 18, 2002 He died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Born June 9, 1933, in Sioux Falls, S.D., he was a son of the late Everett C. and Frances (Pettit) Watson. Col. Watson served his country in the U.S. Army for 30 years. Among his career highlights were his two tours in Vietnam as an Army aviator, command of the 55th AVN Bn at Ft. Hood, Texas, and nine years as a faculty member in the Department of Command, Leadership and Management at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, where he was honored as a Distinguished Fellow. He was the original recipient of the Gen. Matthew B. Ridgeway Chair of Leadership, and a member of the Association of the U.S. Army and the Disabled American Veterans. Among his many awards are the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with Valor Device and Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, 37 Air Medals with Valor Device, and the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a member of the U.S. Army War College Memorial Chapel, Carlisle. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, DeElda Watson; three sons, DeLane C. of Denver, Colo., Daryl C. of Bradford, and Maj. Dale E. of U.S. Army, Germany; a daughter, Denise M. Watson of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Richard L. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The Rev. Sonny Morre will officiate at services. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the National Cemetery, Black Hills, S.D. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society - Melanoma Research, 3211 North Front St., Suite 100, Harrisburg, 17110.
