Jr (retired) of Bailey, Colorado passed away on
Tuesday, August 13, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
Airman Third Class Weimer began his military
career as an enlisted man in 1959 at Lackland
AFB, San Antonio TX, completed Navigator training
in 1962, Electronic Warfare training in 1963, and
the Aviator Cadet Program in 1968. Aircraft flown
were T41 Cessna, T37 Jet Trainer, B-52H and
B-52F Bombers, C141A, C-47D and T29D Cargo
Transport. Helicopters included: TH1F Hughes,
CH-3C, CH3E and HH53B/C, Sikorsky. He was a
C-141 Transport pilot from 2/1969 to 4/1970 at
which time he attended USAF Conversion Pilot
training (Helicopter) F-V5F/E, he completed
HH53B/C Helicopter SATS training in 1970. He
was a HH-53C Helicopter Rescue Aircraft
Commander in DaNang, South Vietnam from
10/1970 to 10/1971 and 4 to 5/1972.
Captain Weimer was awarded two Silver Star
medals for gallantry in action in 2/1971 and
5/1972. He was also awarded two USAF
Distinguished Flying Cross medals for Heroism
while participating in Aerial Flight in January
and March, 1971. He went on to become a LTC in
August of 1978. He was awarded the Meritorious
Service Medal for Outstanding Service from 12/1977
to 11/1980. John's Air Force career spanned 22
years. He later worked as a carpenter and built
his own home in Bailey. John is preceded in death
by his mother, Emma Leighty Weimer and his
father John R Weimer, Sr. He is survived by his
wife, Beth Ann Weimer of Bailey, CO, and three
children: Catherine Murray, Rosarito Beach,
Mexico, Donna Weimer, Waveland, MS, and Gloria
Steele, Tampa FL, five step children: Annette
Bixler, Mt Wolf, PA, Abby Ullman, Manchester, PA,
Renae Mundis, Thornton CO, Rebekah Lurtz also of
Thornton, and Gretchen Reynolds, Cedaredge, CO.
He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and
one great grandchild. John is survived by one
brother, Lloyd Weimer, Akron, OH and three
sisters: Doris Palmer, Bushnell, FL, Shirley
Barnes, Tallmadge, OH, and Karyle Harper,
Southside, AL and numerous nieces and
nephews.
A Military funeral will be held at Ford Logan
National Cemetery in Denver, CO on Friday,
September 20th at 11:00 AM. A celebration of
John's life will follow at his home at 779 Pine
Hollow, Bailey, CO at 12:30 PM.
He will be sadly missed by all his family and
friends.
Will be intured at Ft Logan National Cemetery on
20 Sep 2013. RMCVHPA member.
