Bryce Whitson, 74, of New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Clark County and retired as a major after 23 years in the U.S. Army. He has been department head of the sanitation department for the City of New Albany serving under Mayor Bob Real and Mayor Regina Overton. He was a member of DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church and was an avid stock car racing ran. Survivors include his wife, Dee Rough Whitson; four sons, Gary B. and Gerry B. Whitson, Jeffersonville, Greg B. Whitson, Clarksville and L. Bryce Whitson Jr., New Albany; four stepsons, Chris and Todd Rough, Floyds Knobs and Tony and Jimmy Hartman, Clarksville; a brother, Dale Whitson, Galena; two sisters, Helen Holstner, New Albany and Linda Cook, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation at Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church.
