Waddell, 63, died March 20 in Lebanon,
Pennsylvania, from heart disease. He served in
the U.S. Army and retired at the rank of Captain
(O-3).
He was a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War
flying UH-1 Assault Helicopters and CH-47 Heavy
Cargo Chinook Helicopters, clocking nearly 2,400
flight hours of which 956 were combat hours which
included nearly 1500 combat missions. He was
awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal with
"V" device with an additional 31 Oak Leaf
Clusters, teh Meritorious and Presidential Unit
Citations, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with
Palm, the Medal for Humanitarian Service from the
Secretary of Defense for six air/sea rescues
during Hurricane Eloise, and many other awards.
Waddell was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of
America Michael J. Novosel M.O.H., Capitol
(Harrisburg) Chapter 542. (Note: class of 68-522
& 69-70 116th AHC).
