More detail on this person: Joseph Michael Waters AUGUSTA, Ga. - Joseph Michael Waters, 66, wife of Virginia Dent Waters of Columbia, SC, entered into rest on Thursday, June 3, 2010. A private memorial service will be held at the Dent Family Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Joseph was born in Dayton, Ohio, on April 10, 1944, and graduated from Troy State University with a B.S. degree in Business. He is listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. He was an instructor helicopter pilot for twelve years in the Army and also served as a Major in the Army Reserves for five years. He spent two years in Viet Nam, flying rescue missions. He was shot down twice. Joe was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, twenty four air citations, and two Army Commendation awards. While in the Army he also obtained his commercial airplane license. Joe began his career in civilian life as a Foundry Foreman for Crucible Steel in Elizabethtown, KY, from 1976-1977. From 1977-1983 he worked as Supervisor of Production Control and was promoted to Regional Distribution Manger of the Central Customer Service Center in Bardstown, KY, for the Burroughs Corporation. In 1983-1987 Joe was transferred to Tolland, CT, to be Burroughs Customer Service Manager for two printing plants and assumed additional duties as Product ion and Inventory Manger. From 1987-1988 he was Manager of Production and Inventory Control for Brown Bovari in West Columbia, SC. He also planned consolidation of plants and movement of materials. From 1989-1992 Joe was Material Supervisor and Buyer for MRO items and raw materials in Columbia, SC, for Ambac Corporation. From 1992-2009 he served as Purchasing Manager/Assistant Plant Manager at Air Balance, Mestek, in Wrens, Georgia. Joe was an avid gun collector and expert. He was a member of the Viet Nam's Helicopter Pilot Association, the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, the VFW, and the NRA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Amber Waters Sobieraj of Charleston, SC; grandson, Andreas Michael Sobiaraj of Charleston; son-in-law, Damian Andreas Sobieraj of Charleston; brother, David Samuel Waters of Rehobath Beach, Delaware; brother, Bruce Malcom Waters of Lancaster, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 1725, Augusta GA 30903.
