COLUMBUS, GA: CW4 (Ret) Stanley J. Wujek,
Master Army Aviator/Test Pilot, 69, of Columbus,
GA passed away Monday, April 17, 2006. Stan was
born in Beaver City, NE, on Dec 27, 1936, had
lived in Columbus for most of his life, retiring
from the U.S. Army in August 1985 after over
26-years of service; including two tours in
Vietnam, where he received the Vietnam Service
Medal with three Bronze Stars, Distinguished
Flying Cross, and two Air Medals. Upon his
retirement Stan was awarded The Meritorious
Service Medal in recognition of his continued
exceptional service. During his career he was
attached to the U.S Navy's Air Development
Squadron Six in Antarctica (Antarctic
Expeditionary Force), where his crew achieved the
first Mid-Winter fight know in that region. Stan
was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University with a Bachelor of Aeronautical Science
Degree. Following his military career, Stan
continued his aviation career in civil service as
a Flight Test Pilot, Maintenance Examiner (ME),
and Shop Foreman of the Aircraft Repair Branch,
Shop 4 for the Directorate of Logistics at Fort
Benning. During the later part of his Army career
and continuing throughout his civil service
career, a great majority of UH-1 & UH-60
maintenance test pilots in the southeastern US
interacted with Stan every year to maintain their
test pilot currency and check rides. Stan is
survived by his wife, Carolyn Huff Wujek of
Columbus, Georgia, two sisters; Lavonne Ashwood
and her husband Richard of Gering, NE, Roseanne
Eager of Merced, CA, a brother, Dan Wujek and his
wife Helen of Hot Springs, AK, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
