More detail on this person: CancerMaj. Earl B. Whited, Ret., 62, of El Paso passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 after bravely battling two types of cancer for over 8 years. Originally from Pekin, Illinois, he graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1960. He served in the Unites States Marine Corps from 1960 - 1965, serving with the 5th Marine Regiment and as a guard in the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in Criminology. He then joined the U.S. Army, completing Officer's Candidate School and Army Aviation School in 1969. He served in Vietnam with the 119th Assault Helicopter Company from February - October 1970, his tour having been cut short due to injuries sustained in combat. He then completed Military Police School in 1971 and served as the Military Police Chief in Nuremburg, Germany from 1973 - 1975. He retired from the U.S. Army at Ft. Bliss, Texas in 1983. He was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot's Association, Amvets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Disabled Veterans of America. Earl was a loving husband, devoted father and great animal lover who will be greatly missed. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl F. Whited and Ethel C. Whited. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Maria Luisa Whited, his 4 children, Gregory Whited, Stephanie Osburn, Maria Luisa Megret and Kristal Whited and his sister Beverly Dailey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm with a rosary to begin at 7pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at Sunset Funeral Home - Northeast. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at St. Michael's (Chapel #2) located on Fort Bliss, TX. Internment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home - Northeast.
