More detail on this person: Daniel Munro Wilson Daniel Munro Wilson Press-Register (Mobile, AL) - Friday, December 5, 2003 AL United States Lt. Col. (Ret.) Daniel Munro Wilson -- age 73, a native of the District of Columbia and a Fairhope resident for many years, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at his home. Lt. Col. Wilson joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 under the Holloway Plan and served from 1951 until his retirement in 1968 with the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Korea, the Cuban Blockade, and Vietnam. In '67 & '68, as the commanding officer of HMS-361, he rebuilt a decimated combat helicopter squadron, and lost his sight flying a medivac mission. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star for meritorious service in Vietnam along with the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal and 10 Air Medals. Col. Dan was a 50+ year member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, receiving the Barbershopper of the Year Award in 1995 and serving as Chapter President several times. He was a senior member of the Confederate Harmony Brigade. He was a member for decades of the Fairhope Yacht Club and the American Legion. In 1951 he married a Fairhope girl and became engaged to the area. He saw the world and returned to live in Fairhope. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Porter Wilson, Fairhope; two sons, Bradford Wilson, Tuscaloosa, AL and Douglas Wilson, Roswell, GA; one brother, David I. Wilson, Bellingham, WA and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Fairhope Funeral Home Chapel, with the family receiving friends beginning at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to WHIL-FM, P. O. Box 8509, Mobile, AL 36689.
