Woodard (U.S. Army Retired) died April 26, 2008, at Baylor University Hospital Dallas, Texas, after a long illness with cancer. Larry was born Dec. 5, 1936, in Hillsdale, to Miller and Mildred Woodard. Larry grew up in the area, and attended Quincy High School briefly. He graduated in 1954 from Reading High School. He received his bachelor's degree at Western Michigan University and his master's degree from Central Michigan University. While attending WMU, he was in the ROTC program, and upon leaving college joined the National Guard and attended the Michigan Military Academy. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and went on active duty in August 1963. Larry retired in 1986 as a lieutenant colonel from Fort McPherson, Ga., with more than 29 years of service to his country. Upon retiring from the Army he began a second career as a logistic and weapons systems analyst for CAS Inc. in Huntsville, Ala. He is survived by his wife MaryAnne Maurer Woodard, a former Coldwater resident and who now resides in Madison, Ala.; four children, son Kent (Teresa) and son Scott (Julie), all of the Dallas, Texas area, and Kipp (Tammie) of Madison, Ala.; daughter Susan (Steve) of Springfield, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Tony, Adam, Kristin, William, Benjamin, Calli, Elise, Aubri, Nathan and Sara; mother Mildred; and three brothers Patrick, Bill and Tim and their wives. He was preceded in death by his father Miller Woodard. Larry's love for family, life, fishing, cars, computers and many other hobbies will be greatly missed. However, he has left each family member a special legacy that will be carried on to future generations. Larry will be buried with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery on July 14, 2008 at 9 a.m. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at First Baptist Church of Coldwater.
