More detail on this person: Lloyd Nichols Washer, 73, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Hackensack, NJ, he had been a Hampton resident since 1985. Lloyd served 27 years in the US Army including three tours to Vietnam, receiving the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medals before retiring in 1988. He was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and most recently enjoyed driving for Suttle Motor Corp in Newport News. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Sally Washer; children, Lynne Evans and husband George, Sallena Nikitas and husband Brian, Mandi Homer and husband Pat, Jason Madden and Barbara Washer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Barbara Hardy; brother-in-law, Robert Hardy; sister-in-law, Libby Hardy; and nine grandchildren, Meghan, Corinne, Tyler, Brian "Jakey", Dylan, Audrianna, Sara, Patrick and Allyson. The family will receive friends, Monday from 6-8 PM, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday at 2 PM. Interment with full military honors will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or National Museum of the United States Army.
