More detail on this person: John R Welsh After a 38 year struggle with the effects of the Vietnam War, our courageous and loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away on Veteran's Day, Sunday November 11, 2007 at the age of 63 at his home in Murray, Utah. John was born January 30, 1944 to Darwin and Zula Welsh in Denton, Texas. He graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1962 and married Linda Connors in 1969. He later graduated from the University of Utah with his degree in Sociology in 1979. He served his country with honor and valor as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam during 1968-1969. He participated in many campaigns, receiving many Air Medals for Valor and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. John was a gifted and talented musician who loved the outdoors and the old west. One of his favorite activities in his later years was to watch old Western and World War II movies, especially those starring John Wayne. He was a believer in Almighty God and demonstrated his Christian faith to others through his loving kindness and generosity. He always expressed gratitude to all of the many neighbors and dedicated friends that watched over him and cared for him so much. The family would like to give special thanks to his friend, Barbara and her husband Mike. He is survived by his two sons: John Michael (Annette) and their two children, Nathan and Natalie, along with Kendal (Mindy), and children Ashley, Jeremy, Tyler and Andrew. Also survived by his father, Darwin (Anita), his mother, Zula, aunt, Marie (Ronnie) Jaeger of San Marcos, Texas, brother Benton of Chattanooga, Tennessee and his children, Andrew and Emily. John was preceded in death by his brother Ron in 2002 who is survived by his wife Georgia and their children, Rachel (Tony) and Joni (Corey). Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy. A Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm and one hour prior to the Services. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
