More detail on this person: Rush Robert Wicker (July 14, 1937 - December 22, 2010) Rush Robert Wicker died Wednesday, December 22, 2010, after a long illness. Services will be held at College Ave. Church of Christ on Monday, December 27, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Ministers Keith Ellis and George Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:30 P.M., Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Wiregrass Christian Youth Camp, PO Box 311072, Enterprise, AL 36331. Rush was born July 14, 1937 in Ajo, AZ. He graduated from Arizona State University then entered the US Army. He had a 36 year career working in the US Army and Civil Service. Rush was a member of the College Avenue Church of Christ. He was involved in many activities and served as deacon. He also served on the board for Wiregrass Christian Youth Camp. Rush loved his community and it showed through his efforts. He volunteered with the American Red Cross and was instrumental in the organizing of the College Ave. Church to serve the community as a disaster shelter. Rush was honored in 1983 to serve as Enterprise Man of the Year. In 2005 Rush received the President Call to Service Award from President George Bush. This was for outstanding character and help to our country for over 4000 hours of community service. Rush was an avid rose gardener and member of the Boll Weevil Rose Society. He cared for roses throughout the city so all could enjoy. Rush is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Margaret; one daughter, Muriel McSweeny and her husband, Chris of Centerton, AR; one son Keith and his wife, Valerie of Phenix City, AL. Rush had two granddaughters whom he loved dearly, Ashton and Abby. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Enterprise Health and Rehab Center. A special thanks to the caregivers on hall 3 who provided wonderful care to our loved one during his illness.
