WAGGENER Daily Press (Newport News, VA) - Tuesday, September 16, 2003 NEWPORT NEWS - Thomas Edward Waggener, 63, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Mary Immaculate Hospital. Mr. Waggener was born in Springfield, Ill., and had resided on the Peninsula for the past 32 years. Mr. Waggener served in Vietnam and retired from the U.S. Army, Ft. Monroe, as a Master Aviator in 1980 after 21 years of service. He received the Bronze Star, 15 Air Medals and one with the "V" device. He also received the Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. He continued his aviation career with Landmark Communications as the Chief Pilot, retiring in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beatrice Waggener of Newport News; his mother, Mary McGhee Waggener of Newport News; and three brothers, Michael Waggener of Williamsburg, John Waggener of Scottsboro, Ala., and James Waggener of Mathews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Weymouth Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Peninsula Memorial Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
