'Gary' Waldron Tribune, The (Ames, IA) - Thursday, August 14, 2003 Gary Waldron, formerly of Algona, died August 3 (2003), at Fort Collins. Funeral service for him was held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Drake Road Chapel at Fort Collins, the Rev. Don Bird officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery with military rites by the All Veterans Honor Guard. A son of Peter James and Gladys Dumas Waldron, Garald Lee ws born at Algona, IA on August 4, 1930. He graduated from Algona High School in 1948 then enlisted in the United States Army. He was selected for Army Officer's Training and received his commission as Second Lt. In 1951. Gary served in the military for 22 years, retiring as a full Colonel in 1973. He had served in the Korean Conflict and commanded the 145th Aviation Battalion in Vietnam. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and Distinguished Flying Cross among many other military decorations. After his military career, Gary moved to Lake Forest, CA and became a business owner, most recently operating a telecommunications center before retiring and moving to Fort Collins in 1996. At Lake Forest, Gary was involved with the community, coaching Little League, Pop Warner football, softball and basketball. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church at Mission Viego, CA. Surviving are his wife, Karen and three children; Capt. Thomas J. Waldron, currently serving with the 101st Aviation Battalion in Iraq; Kimberly A. Hall and her husband, Timothy, Idalia, CO and Michael James Waldron, Fort Collins. Also surviving are his former wife, Alice June Buss Waldron and their two children; GayLene Rossiter and her husband, Robert, and Kerry J. Waldron and his wife, Shelley, all of Fort Collins. There are four grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Donna Jean Lichty of Elmhurst, IL.
