He was here at Fort Rucker when assigned as a
"filler" as the 1st Cav formed at Fort Benning.
He went over with the Cav on the USS Boxer (and
applied for retirement). He only served a few
months in Vietnam. Came home and retired 31
OCT 65.
He died June 19, 1995 in a nursing home in
Geneva, AL after wasting away from Alzheimer's
disease and dementia.
He lied about his age to join Navy in WW-II. His
DD-214 says April 3, 1925 and I have a DD-215
(dated 1989) correcting the birth year to 1927.
He served in the Navy at the end of WW-II He was
enlisted Army in Korea and CWO-3 Maintenance
Officer in Vietnam.
His address when he died was 1007 East Andrews
Avenue, Ozark, Alabama. (E-911 has since
changed that to (1711 Andrews Avenue)
