More detail on this person: Martin D Weiss WEISS - Martin, died at age 69 on November 13 after a short but valiant fight against cancer. A devoted family man, he leaves behind his loving wife of over 43 years, Barbara, and his adoring children, Darrin, Brad and Alison and her husband Jeff Nixon. He was a wonderful, loving grandpa to Marli, Jake and Cooper. Born in Brooklyn to Mary and Harry, he moved with his parents and brothers Stanley and Norman to East Meadow LI. After attending Michigan St. University and LIU he was drafted into the US Army during the height of the Vietnam War. He rose from Private to the rank of Captain and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal with 11 Oak Leaf Clusters and others. Returning to the states after his overseas duty he was the commanding officer of a unit responsible for the flight training of both American and allied pilots. After military service he worked for a family owned constructon business and in the 70's entered the insurance industry - actively working for over 35 years. His priority was his family but his goal to help those with their financial planning was what motivated him most and which served as an inspiration to his colleagues. He will be sorely missed by all who he associated with or who knew him. In the past, he loved to ride his motorcycles and take his fishing boat out into Huntington Harbor, but most of all he loved his family. Services to be held Tuesday, November 15 at Gutterman's Funeral Home, Woodbury with internment at Beth Moses Cemetery, Pinelawn. Shiva will be held at the family home, 185 West Shore Road, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to his favorite charity, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC.
