More detail on this person: William D Wicks Townsend - Mr. Wicks was born in Haverhill, Mass., on November 6, 1946, the son of William D. Wicks Jr. and the late Estelle (Turner) Wicks, and has resided in Townsend for over 20 years. Besides his father of Haverhill, he leaves his wife of 32 years, Mrs. Dorothy L. (Coalter) Wicks; four sons, Mr. Samuel J. Wicks and Mr. Michael K. Wicks, both of Ocala, Fla., Mr. Kevin R. Wicks of Townsend, and Captain William T. Wicks and his wife, Quinn, of Ft. Hood, Texas; a brother, Robert T. Wicks of Haverhill; two sisters, Suzanne Wicks of Freemont, N.H., and Lucinda Mitchell of Haverhill; and two grandchildren, William T. (Tommy) Wicks, Jr., and Julianne M. Wicks. Mr. Wicks served his country for over 20 years as a rotary wing and fixed wing aviator in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer at West Point, New York. During his military career, Mr. Wicks served overseas in Vietnam, West Germany, South Korea, and two tours at Fort Devens, where he met his loving wife, Dorothy. He was awarded many commendations including the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal and 21 Air Medals for service in combat. Following his retirement from the armed services, Mr. Wicks went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration in several capacities. He held positions as an Aviation Safety Inspector and worked operations in Flight Standards at Windsor Locks, Conn., Hanscom Field, and Boston-Logan International Airport, finishing his career with the FAA as the Northeast Region All Weather Operations Specialist in Burlington. He retired from federal service on December 31, 2012. He was an avid golfer, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and enjoyed watching his beloved Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics, and the Boston College Eagles and Florida Gators. ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at St. John's Church, 1 School Street, Townsend. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Townsend with full military honors.
