"Jim", 75, retired Army Lieutenant Colonel died
May 10, 2013 while peacefully resting at his home
in Fairfax, VA after a long and courageous battle
with Parkinson's disease. Jim was commissioned
as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army in 1960 after
graduating from the United States Military Academy
at West Point. He served 22 years in the Army
including two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter
pilot. In 1975, Jim's final assignment with the
Army brought him and his family to Fairfax. After
retiring from the military in 1982, he continued
his career with EDS in Northern Virginia. Jim was
an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and loved
cheering on his children during sporting events
and in their personal pursuits. He is survived by
his wife of 52 years Joan; two daughters Lisa
Lowrey (husband Rick) and Dana Ryan (husband
Jim); two sons Christopher (wife Karen) and Kevin;
sister Ann Rumph (husband John); and seven
grandchildren. Jim loved his family and service to
his country. He will be dearly missed as we
remember and celebrate his life. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 14, in the
Memorial Chapel, Ft. Myer, Arlington, VA. Guests
should arrive early for security checks at
Hatfield Gate. The service will be followed by
Full Military Honors at Arlington National
Cemetery and a reception to follow at the Ft. Myer
Officer's Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations in Jim's honor may be made to
Parkinson's Foundation of the National Capital
Area (www.parkinsonfoundation.org) or Fisher
House Foundation (www.fisherhouse.org).
