More detail on this person: Wayne F Woodbury, 58 Obituaries Wayne F. Woodbury Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (AK) - Wednesday, March 13, 2002 Delta Junction resident Wayne F. Woodbury, 58, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Delta Junction. Wayne was born on Oct. 23, 1943, in Marion, Mich. He started flying at 15 and had his pilot's license at 16 and his own airplane at 19. After graduating from high school in Vermontville, Mich., he joined the Air National Guard and earned his Link Instructors Certificate. In 1965, Wayne transferred to the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Helicopter Program later serving in Vietnam. After being stationed at Fort Wainwright in 1967, he fell in love with Alaska and decided to make Fairbanks his home. Wayne flew for the Bureau of Land Management and Frontier Flying Service; meeting a lot of people and making a lot of friends. He owned and operated his own air service out of McCarthy, Alaska, for several years. In 1983 Wayne moved to Delta Junction to enjoy the remoteness and mountains. He was most recently employed with Guardian Security as a security guard. His family said, "He's now flying again, the love of his life, along with fishing, hunting and snowmachining." Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Oswell O. and Verna Woodbury. He is survived by his wife Mary L. Woodbury of Delta Junction; his daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Bryce Covington of Simpsonville, S.C.; his son Kenneth Woodbury of Waterloo, S.C.; his daughter Terral Woodbury of Simpsonville; brother Lester Woodbury of Vermontville; sister Phyllis Smith of Charlotte, Mich.; and brother Boyd Woodbury of Potterville, Mich. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodbury family or to the American Heart Association, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane, Suite 100, Anchorage AK 99503. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 13, at the Assembly of God Church in Delta Junction. Pastor Dean Bialik will officiate. Interment will be later this spring. Arrangements were by Fairbanks Funeral Home & Crematory.
