More detail on this person: Leslie Milton White, 52 Leslie M. White Daily Oklahoman, The (Oklahoma City, OK) - Tuesday, March 18, 1997 WHITE Leslie M., 52, of Hooker, OK passed away March 15, 1997 near Hooker. Leslie Milton White & his twin brother Lisle were born October 27, 1944 in San Diego, CA, where the family was living while his father, Ira, served in the Navy. His mother, Arline, moved back to Hooker, OK with the "twins" after Ira finished boot camp. Les grew up in Hooker, graduating from Hooker High School in 1962. He attended Panhandle State University with his high school sweetheart, ArVel Jones, marrying her October 2 9, 1966. Their first son, Ed was born July 7, 1967 in Guymon, OK. Their youngest son, Sean, was born in Fort Rucker, AL on January 30, 1972. His sons were the pride of his life & he encouraged them in every thing they did. He made a vow to & did, tell th em he loved them every day. Les graduated from PSU with a chemistry degree in 1967 & was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Ft. Sill, OK where young Lieutenant White attended artillery school, range r school, fixed & rotary wing flight school. Les served one tour as a pilot in Vietnam. Les was a dreamer. Once he decided on a course of action, he did everything he could to make it happen. He & ArVel purchased The Model Store & tried to make a go of a small retail clothing outlet in Hooker, flying in the face of the trend toward megastores such as Wal-Mart. He next decided that there simply were not enough products derived from cattle manure. He managed the Calorific plant which produced cattle food binder & methane gas from manure. He was a "missionary" of sorts trying to convert the unbelievers & not just in business. For the last several years, Les owned & operated Treatrite Chemical Company. He loved working for himself. His self-employment allo wed him to take time to visit his many friends from Rocky Ford, CO to Canadian, TX to Oklahoma City, OK. Les enjoyed entertaining friends & family. Particularly, he loved to barbecue. He didn't mind cooking anything as long as he could cook it on a grill . He was not however, particularly good at pit barbecue. He was never too busy to help someone in need. It might be a friend or a total stranger, but he would always take time. It would be impossible to list the people Les motivated, inspired, counseled, befriended & generally help in good times & bad. He had the best friends & family a man could hope to have. He often said that if he died today, he had no regrets & he had done what he wanted to do. For many years Les had been a tireless Hooker booster-serving in the Chamber of Commerce, the airport board, & the Main Street Program. He served at times as the "Voice of the Bulldogs" & for a large increase in pay had recently become the "Voice of the Redskins." Les is preceded in death by his twi n brother, Lisle & his mother, Arline. He is survived by his spouse, ArVel; his 2 sons, Ed & his wife Gina of Yukon, OK & Sean of Dumas, TX. He is also survived by his father, Ira; & his 2 brothers & their families, Dale & Julia & Donnie & Teruko all of Hooker. He will be missed. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 1997 at the First Baptist Church in Hooker with Mr. Dan Cole officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker , OK. The family asks that memorials be sent to the Hooker Main Street Program & may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.
