More detail on this person: LT. COL. ROBERT (BOB) MILFORD WRIGHT, USMC RETIRED FUNERALS AND MEMORIALS * * * *PAID OBITUARIES Austin American-Statesman (TX) - Monday, January 15, 1996 Lt. Col. Robert (Bob) Wright, USMC Retired, passed away Friday, January 12,1996. A service was held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 14, 1996, in The Gabrields Funeral Chapel, Georgetown, Texas, with Reverend Walter Carr of St. Helen Catholic Church officiating. His body will be sent to Virginia for services at the USMC Base Chapel at Quantico, Virginia, followed by a graveside military ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery where he will be buried with his first wife, Mary Lee Wright. Bob graduated from Brackenridge High School and attended college at the University of Texas. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he trainedas a helicopter pilot. He served three tours in Vietnam including the Tet Offensive and the final evacuation of Saigon. He also trained as a fixed-wing fighter pilot and completed his degree in economics at Chapman College in California. At Cherry Point, North Carolina, Bob commanded the first US squadron of Harrier pilots and later acted as a Marine liaison with the Pentagon for the Harrier project. After his retirement from the Corp in 1984, he continued acting as the Harrier project liaison for DCS, Inc. in Washington, DC. He retired from DCS in 1992. In Washington, Bob met and married Joan Kovalcin McCallister. After his retirement, they moved to Austin, Texas, where Bob enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. His passions included his wife and family, hunting with his father and family, golfing, precision shooting, and managing Fantasy Baseball teams. He will be missed by his family very much. Bob is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Matthew, Beth and Sarah Wright and his step-son, Joe McCallister; his parents, Sarah and Sidney Wright of San Ajntonio, Texas; and his sister, Karen Gilbert. Arrangements by The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, Georgetown, Texas.
