More detail on this person: CPT Woody was
attending flight school after his tour in Vietnam
as an infantryman when he was killed.
In looking for obituary information on microfilm,
I came across a news article in the Oct. 12, 1967
Sampsonian. It mentions that Army First
Lieutenant Willard R. Woody received the Bronze
Star Medal in Vietnam Sept. 19, 1967 and that he
also held the Purple Heart and the Vietnamese
Cross of Gallantry with gold star. Your listing
for Willard Woody states that he was killed during
a training flight prior to going to Vietnam.
Apparently he had already served one tour. From:

Capt Willard Ray Woody, Vietnam Veteran, Born in
Texas, He became a native of Clinton, NC. He was
killed during a training flight at Fort Stewart,
Georgia on 5 Apr 68 with two other Soliders, when
there UH-1B crashed. Capt Willard had spent one
tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze
Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal and the
Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Gold Star for his
efforts. He also wore Aviator Wings.
Army Capt Willard Ray Woody, 25, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Willard B. Woody, 204 Grove Street, Clinton,
received the Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam,
September 19,1967. Capt Woody earned the award
for Outstanding Meritorious Service as Liaison
Officer assigned to Headquarters Company, 3rd
Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division near Dau
Tieng. Capt Woody entered the Army in 1965 and
arrived overseas in Septermber 1966. He was last
assigned to the 22nd Infantry in Vietnam. Capt
Woody is a 1960 graduate of Killeen, Texas High
School and received a B.S. in education in 1964
from North Texas State University in Denton,
Texas. He is a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
