"Rob" Young, Jr., 49, of Osierfield died May 23, 2000, at Tift General Hospital, Tifton, Ga. Mr. Young was born in Ben Hill County on June 30, 1951, to Lois Dorminy Young and the late Lenard Young. Retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4, U. S. Army Aviation, while stationed at Hunter Army Air Base in 1990. He was a Vietnam Veteran. During his military career, he was named Aviator of the Year at Hood, Texas. He dropped the canister that started the 1973 Fire Cracker 400 NASCAR race in Daytona Beach, FL. After retiring, he moved to Osierfield. He had been a pilot for the Georgia Forestry Service. He was a 1969 graduate of the Daytona Mainland Senior High School in Daytona Beach, FL. Mr. Young is survived by his mother, his wife, Gwen; one son and one daughter, and one step-daughter; two sisters: Mary and Terri; and grandmother , Mary Dorminy of Fitzgerald. Funeral services were held at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Osierfield Cemetery.
