More detail on this person: Lt. Col. John Grey Young Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. John Grey Young, 78, husband of Dr. Sharon McIlvain Finuf Young, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at his residence in Hanahan. Lt. Col. Young was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Sumter County, the son of the late John Rockwell Young and Gertrude Cloaniger Young. Graduating from Edmunds High School in 1945, he attended Clemson University, and Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga. He graduated from West Point Military Academy, Class of 1954. He earned a master's of industrial management degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. He returned to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where he graduated from Command and General Staff College in May 1967. Lt. Col. Young served in World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of The Charleston Kiwanis Club, Retired Officers Association, West Point Society of Charleston, The Westmoreland Chapter, Military Order of the World Wars, and The Washington Light Infantry. He was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church, the Men of Peace and a Stephen minister. Lt. Col. Young was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorene Young Garrett and Eunice Young Holland; and two brothers, Kenneth Rockwell Young and Paul Franklin Young.
