Additional information about this casualty:
A joint U.S.-Vietnamese team excavated and investigated the helicopter crash site in 1989, 1992, and 1994. Helicopter wreckage was found on the first visit, but no human remains were located. During the 1992 visit, the team learned a local villager had buried remains from the crash in his garden. In 1994, investigators found more bone fragments, personal effects and helicopter wreckage at the crash site. The remains of Chapman and Prater have been identified and will be given to next of kin in late 1997. From The Cincinnati Enquirer, Sunday, October 5, 1997. The USAF Casuality File states that the Armed Forces Identification Review Board approved the group remains identification recommendation on 26 Sep 1997.
